Best Minimalist Christmas Decor

These minimalist holiday decorating ideas are proof that you can decorate for Christmas without spending a lot of time and money. Use these understated Christmas decorations to bring some simple Christmas cheer to your home this year.

1. Minimalist Christmas Tree: Skip The Ornaments

This year, try creating a minimalist Christmas tree by skipping the ornaments. Use a basket and a fuzzy blanket in place of a traditional tree skirt to keep it cozy.

2. Garlands

Draping a garland across a window is a simple way to bring some Christmas feeling to any room. I love how Rachel – from 'Maison de PAX' –uses a natural garland to decorate a dining room for the holidays in the image below.

To make this easy hanging DIY Christmas decoration, re-purpose cookie cutter shapes and hang them from a pine branch. It doesn't take very much time, and it looks so cute!

DIY Christmas Hanging Project Supplies

  • Pine Branch: a pine branch to make this Christmas hanging should be easy to find in your neighborhood, or steal a branch off your Christmas tree.

6. Ornament Bowl

An ornament bow is another simple idea that will help keep your holiday decorating cheap and hassle free this year. Try throwing some ornaments in large a bowl for some easy Christmas decor. I love how Chloe from 'Boxwood Avenue'  uses pine cones and tree ornaments in the picture below.

7. Mini Christmas Tree

Are you tired of splurging on a full size Christmas tree every single year? Or do you feel like you just don't have time this year? Maybe this is the year to skip the big tree, and keep things simple with a mini Christmas tree.

Try a different take on the minimalist Christmas tree by creating this DIY miniature version.  Use only the tip top of a pine tree. Place it in a clear vase with a little bit of water, set on a countertop or table, and voila – you're done!

8. Candles

You can't go wrong with candles! Decorating with a few candles is an easy way to make any space feel cozy for Christmas. Group a few together in a gold tray for a modern minimalist Christmas decoration.

9. Decorative Christmas Tray

A mini Christmas tree wrapped with burlap, and a bowl of peppermints can create a cute and simple Christmas decoration that is prefect for a small space.

10. Recycled Glass Jars As Candle Holders

A very simple, yet beautiful Christmas candle decoration idea. Reuse vintage glass milk jars to hold candles. Tie a sprig of evergreen leaves with some twine for a cozy Christmas look.

11. Simple Coffee Table Vignette

Need a simple idea for decorating your coffee table? Use a serving tray to display some cute Christmas decor like a mini faux tree, some candles and a little white house like the photo below.

12. Open Shelf Stockings

This minimalist Christmas decor idea takes inspiration from two of the this year's biggest design trends – open shelving and asymmetry.

Hanging stockings on an open shelf may not fit the classic tradition of hanging from a mantel, but it will definitely make a great option for those that don't have a fireplace. A modern black crate full of firewood still gives you that woodsy vibe.

I hope these minimalist Christmas decorations gave you some ideas on how you can decorate in your home for the holidays this year!
